PECAngel Tree Program Expands Reach and Support for Local Families in Hastings, Northumberland & PEC

Updated: Sep 3

The Children’s Foundation is modifying its beloved Angel Tree program due to the increased need for its primary mandate, which is to support Highland Shores Children’s Aid (HSCA) families across the regions of Hastings, Northumberland, and Prince Edward County (PEC).

This modification reflects the need in our community and our commitment to providing holiday joy to more families in need and ensuring that every child in HSCA receives a special gift during this festive season.

Key program updates include:

Wider Geographic Coverage: The Angel Tree program, which has traditionally served the community of Picton, will now be available to families throughout the entire HSCA region, encompassing Hastings, Northumberland, and PEC.

Enhanced Procurement Efforts: To meet the increased demand, we have proactively procured gifts and supplies valued at over $3,000 for the Picton area, with a focus on essentials like snowsuits to keep children warm during the winter months.

Expanded Distribution Points: Gifts will be distributed through HSCA offices located in Belleville, Picton, Cobourg, and Bancroft. These strategically placed offices will ensure convenient access for families across the region.

Growing Need: The need for assistance during the holiday season remains high and underscores the importance of the Angel Tree program's expansion.

Focus on HSCA-Involved Children: Due to the overwhelming demand for support, the Angel Tree program will now be open exclusively to children in the care of Highland Shores Children's Aid (HSCA). This adjustment ensures that resources are allocated to ensure all HSCA can be accommodated.

Community Partnerships: The Children’s Foundation has actively engaged in forming partnerships to provide alternative programs and support to families in need who are not in HSCA ensuring that all children have access to holiday gifts, regardless of their circumstances. Honoring a Legacy: We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Susan Rose and her dedicated team, who have been instrumental in delivering the Angel Tree program for over 30 years in Picton. Their commitment to making the holidays brighter for local families is truly commendable.

"We are excited about the expansion of the Angel Tree program to reach more families in our region," said Melanie Cressman, Executive Director at The Children’s Foundation "Our commitment to making the holiday season magical for children remains unwavering, and we are grateful for the support of our dedicated volunteers, donors, and partners who make this possible."
