City of Belleville Grant to fund programs for local youth!

Thank you to the City of Belleville Grants Committee for providing $12,000 towards The Children’s Foundation programs to help at-risk children and youth in Belleville.

These funds are going towards programs like Camps of Hope. This programs provides funds for children and youth to attend camp, year round.

Due to restrictions of COVID-19, many camps have gotten creative by either providing services online or adjusting in other ways to make a camp like experience still possible for children.

The Children’s Foundation created “Summer Fun Kits” for children in 2020, and is on track to create more for summer 2021 for children to still be able to experience camp, safely at home.

Thank you to the City of Belleville! Together we are Helping One Child at a Time!

2021 Guardian Angel Gala Update

The Children’s Foundation annual Guardian Angel Gala celebrating our 2021 Guardian Angel, Bernie Ouellet, has been postponed to March 5, 2022.

We made this decision in order to honour Bernie in the typical TCF Gala style that he deserves! This decision came to light due to the unknowns associated with the current COVID-19 restrictions. Keeping our community safe is top priority.

Due to the postponement of the event, Bernie is our first Angel to be honoured two (2) years straight! We look forward to 2022 when we can properly celebrate such an important member of our community.

Strive to Thrive Pilot Program Launch!

The Children’s Foundation is excited to announce the launch of the pilot program ‘Strive to Thrive’ on Thursday, January 28th. This is a program aimed at Mental Health for Children and Youth in Hastings, Northumberland and Prince Edward Counties.

With the growing numbers of children and youth experiencing challenges to their mental health, and the added effects of Covid-19 pandemic safety measures such as restrictions and isolation for safety, The Children’s Foundation wants to focus on delivering programs to children and youth that will strengthen and support their physical, mental and emotional health, to offer mental health support where greater needs are identified.

The Children’s Foundation, working with Highland Shores Children’s Aid, identifies at-risk children and youth’s mental health as a priority. The Highland Shores Children’s Aid has a team of trained social workers who are able to identify those at greatest risk in terms of their mental health, and offer support and resources to them, or refer them to other professionals, often before they are in crisis.

The ‘Strive To Thrive’ program will offer activities aimed at creating positive self esteem for children and youth, as well as providing life-skills training and care kits for older youth living on their own for the first time.“Up to seventy percent of mental health problems and illnesses begin in childhood or adolescence, and as many as three in four children and youth with mental health problems and illnesses do not access services and treatments. We want to be there to help at risk children and youth now, to prevent future mental health problems”, says Executive Director Kim Henry.

How you can donate this holiday season!

2020 has been anything but normal- including the upcoming holiday season. The Children’s Foundation is asking you to help children and youth in need this holiday season.

With the COVID-19 restrictions still in place, the need for help this year is greater than ever! Some families have been unable to work and are facing financial hardships; some are struggling finding a balance with multiple children and having different needs; some just need help trying to put food on the table. So many unique situations all needing the same thing – help and support to create a happy, healthy and positive holiday.

There are many ways you can help support these families:

-Make a cash donation *click here*

-Donate a gift card for families to purchase food, toys and everyday needs

-Purchase new toys and help families in need put a special gift under the tree

-Donate care package items for older youth. Youth need hair products, deodorant, razors and shaving gel, feminine hygiene products, etc.

You can drop these items off at The Children’s Foundation office (East Side entrance of Children’s Aid) at 363 Dundas Street West in Belleville from Monday to Friday between the hours of 9-3pm. We will be accepting toy and care package donations until Tuesday, December 22nd.

On behalf of the children and youth of The Children’s Foundation thank you for Helping One Child at a Time because Kids Can’t Wait.
