“This previous year has been difficult for a lot of families, financially and mentally. On top, this time of the year is traditionally a gloomy time. We wanted to create a little ‘Spring’ and sunshine for all the families in our local communities. We want to welcome everyone to share in the sunshine for our first Jump into Spring Pajama Party and get out of the house and allow the little ones a bit of freedom in picking out their own new PJs!”, says Kim Henry, Executive Director.

Because of you, and the giving community that we all live in, we are able to provide small bits of sunshine and activities like this to the children, youth, and families in our local communities! Please visit our website www.thechildrensfoundation.ca to learn more about The Children Foundation.

For The Love of Laughter Comedy Night Postponed to April 1st, 2022

In true comedic style, The Children’s Foundation has decided to postpone For The Love of Laughter comedy night to April 1st, 2022- which will end up being the funniest day of the year.

With the current status of Covid-19 and the effects, it’s had on our community The Children’s Foundation has made the responsible decision to postpone their first annual For The Love of Laughter comedy night until it is safer to have groups of individuals indoors. The Children’s Foundation’s mission is to help support children & youth in the community, and it wouldn’t be responsible to put the community at risk.

The theme of the night will still be love, and the love of laughter, but now with an April 1st twist to it! There is never a bad time to celebrate love, and laugh at the same time! All of the food, drinks, comedians, location, and laughs will all stay the same!

Hosted by Shannon Laverty from Yuk Yuk’s Stand- Up Comedy. Presenting headliner and hit comedian Ian Sirota, featuring Jarrett Campbell.

All proceeds will go towards the core programs at The Children’s Foundation. Coming out of the lockdown the children & youth within our community will need our support more than ever. The need for sports funding, camp funding & mental health resource programs will be at an all-time high, and The Children’s Foundation is asking the community to step forward and continue its support. Because of you, we will be able to assist every child that is in need.

Wilkinson & Company LLP helping kids in need

Thank you to Wilkinson & Company LLP for dropping by with a generous donation to help kids and youth in our community. These kids need our help now more than every, and this will help them access our programs and services.

One program that will benefit is our Playing for Keeps program, which strives to give high risk children and youth the opportuity to experience the joy of being a child and not exluded from the activities their friends are enjoying. Each year we are able to sign up 100’s of kids and youth to sports or activities otherwise inaccessible to them- all thanks to donors like Wilkinson & Company LLP!

RBC Strive to Thrive donation helping youth

RBC dropped by to present a generous $5,000 cheque to support The Children’s Foundation  ‘Strive to Thrive’  program.

This is a new program aimed at Mental Health for Children and Youth in Hastings, Northumberland and Prince Edward Counties.

With the growing numbers of children and youth experiencing challenges to their mental health, and the added effects of Covid-19 pandemic safety measures such as restrictions and isolation for safety, The Children’s Foundation wants to focus on delivering programs to children and youth that will strengthen and support their physical, mental and emotional health, to offer mental health support where greater needs are identified.

The Children’s Foundation, working with Highland Shores Children’s Aid, identifies at-risk children and youth’s mental health as a priority. The Highland Shores Children’s Aid has a team of trained social workers who are able to identify those at greatest risk in terms of their mental health, and offer support and resources to them, or refer them to other professionals, often before they are in crisis.

The ‘Strive To Thrive’ program will offer activities aimed at creating positive self esteem for children and youth, as well as providing life-skills training and care kits for older youth living on their own for the first time.“Up to seventy percent of mental health problems and illnesses begin in childhood or adolescence, and as many as three in four children and youth with mental health problems and illnesses do not access services and treatments. We want to be there to help at risk children and youth now, to prevent future mental health problems”, says Executive Director Kim Henry.

McHappy Days Helping Kids in our Community

Despite the rainy day, Wednesday September 22nd was indeed a Happy Day for The Children’s Foundation thanks to local McDonald’s Restaurants. Despite the rainy day, the community came out and helped raise over $13,000 to help local kids attend camp.

Ken & Cynthya Schmidt, owners of McDonald’s in Brighton, Campbellford and Quinte West were pleased with the outcome, saying, “We were excited to help both Ronald McDonald House and The Children’s Foundation through sales & donations received on McHappy Day. Our appreciation goes out to all of our guests and our staff for making this event a success”.

Kim Henry, Executive Director of The Children’s Foundation commented “on behalf of The Children’s Foundation Board of Director’s, staff, and especially all the children we will be able to send to camp- THANK YOU- to our local McDonald’s owners: Bob & Sylvia Doyle, Belleville and Madoc locations; and Cynthya & Ken Schmidt, Quinte West, Trenton, Brighton and Campbellford locations, and their entire staff. Because of you, we will make a lot of children McHAPPY!! As well, a big thank you goes out to all of the wonderful community volunteers for making the 2021 McHappy Day such a success. The generosity of everyone that visited on McHappy Day will go a long way in helping local children attend camp”.

The Camps of Hope program helps to pay registration fees for families in need. The experience of going to camp, whether an outdoor camp, day camp, arts, or sports camp can be an enriching experience and for some, their first chance to venture outside their neighborhoods. For others, it’s an exciting opportunity for exploration and growth. It provides children with an opportunity to develop their social skills, self-esteem, self-confidence, independence, and leadership skills.
