On Thursday October 25, 2018, The Children’s Foundation announced Kristin Crowe to be our 2019 Guardian Angel. The Gala will be held at AVAYA in Belleville on Saturday, February 23rd, 2019.
We are so excited and couldn’t think of a better recipient for this award. On Saturday September 15th family and colleagues gathered at Highland Shores Children’s Aid to remember Ken Sykes and raised funds for The Children’s Foundation Reach for Success Bursary Awards Program.
Ken Sykes was an active member of The Children’s Foundation Board of Directors for seven (7) years. Ken was a true champion for children and youth-in-care and was instrumental in establishing our Reach for Success Bursary Program.
This year, The Children’s Foundation wanted to do something special to mark the goal of raising over $100,000 for the Reach for Success Bursary Program. A stone was created for the commemorative Rock Garden out front of the TCF office. Another new edition to this year’s event, a Plaque was given to the Top Fundraising firm, who will for a whole year be given bragging rights!
The Children’s Foundation (TCF) has been serving children and youth in Hastings County since 1991, and, in 2015, expanded to include Northumberland & Prince Edward Counties. The Children’s Foundation is an autonomous organization governed by its own Board of Directors and is the charitable arm of Highland Shores Children’s Aid (HSCA). Additionally, TCF offers programs for families who are at risk with no affiliation to HSCA. Programs and services aim to educate and inspire members of the communities they serve and to effect change that bring people and financial resources together to improve the quality of life for at risk children and youth.

It’s very easy….your company pledges a donation for every goal the Trenton Golden Hawks score during the regular season and we’ll take care of the rest! Last year the Hawks scored 167 goals! ($1 per goal pledge = $167 donation).

One of the programs The Children’s Foundation funds is Playing for Keeps. When Children participate in recreational or cultural activities, they are not only learning a specific ability; they are developing positive interactive social skills that will last a lifetime. The funds raised during 2016/2017 benefited over 400 children in our community.

The Children’s Foundation raised over $10,500 for our Playing for Keeps & Camps of Hope programs to help support children and youth within North Hastings.

On Thursday, July 5th The Children’s Foundation hosted it’s 3rd annual Cruise for Kids at the Picton Harbour. With over 230 attendee(s) over two (2) Cruise’s. Thanks for the generous sponsors & donours in PEC, TCF had another successful year. We would like to thank everyone who attended, donated or volunteered to be involved in this event. We can’t wait to see you on the water next year!!
On Saturday, April 14th, 2018 Danielle Robinson and Jonathan Bodden of the Ottawa Senators Foundation along with Sens COO Rob Mullowney and Vice-President of Communications Roger Lajoie, proudly presented The Children’s
Foundation and four other local charities with a cheque for $25,000 each to support programming that benefits the Bay of Quinte in the areas of health, wellness, education and youth.
The Children’s Foundation Executive Director, Connie Reid is overwhelmed by the support of the new local AHL team and is excited for this partnership and what this will mean for our local children and youth.
The Foundation will utilize these funds for the Playing for Keeps program, which helps to cover the cost of registration fees for local children and youth to be able participate in the activity they love. It is because of amazing partnerships and organizations like the Belleville Senators we are able to help families who are financially struggling.
On Saturday March 4, 2017 Cynthya & Ken Schmidt were honoured as this year’s Guardian Angels in front of a record 330 guests, at The Children’s Foundation’s annual gala that raised a new record of $136,000. The Guardian Angel Award was created 17 years ago to recognize philanthropic leadership of individual(s) and groups and we could not think of two (2) more deserving angels within our community to honour. Congratulations, Cynthya & Ken.

On Thursday, December 15, 2016 at The Children’s Foundation office, 100 Men Who Care Quinte Members Colin McLean and Ian Press presented The Children’s Foundation Executive Director, Connie Reid and Mark Kartusch, Executive Director with Highland Shores Children’s Aid with a cheque for $9,000 for their Camps of Hope program.
TCF’s Executive Director, Connie Reid Camp said, “So far this year, we have helped over 180 children sign up for a camp. Every year, children in our community enjoy the enriching experience of attending camp they might not have had without the Camps of Hope program.” Camps of Hope helps to pay registration fees for families in need. The Camps of Hope program is available throughout the year including March break, summer and winter breaks and for any type: outdoor camp, arts, day camp, or sports.
Mark Kartusch, Executive Director with Highland Shores Children’s Aid thanked this group for directing their funds to The Children’s Foundation. “At camp, children will learn new skills and build life-long friendships. These experiences help create healthy pathways for all kids. The Foundation ensures that access to that pathway remains open for kids whose families are facing financial difficulties.
