Helping Hands Program

The Helping Hands Program continues to fill a gap in service to the prenatal population at risk of, or currently involved with Highland Shores Children’s Aid Society.  Helping Hands continues to provide hands-on support through direct (face-to-face) contact with the mothers we serve.  Although Hastings County has a number of prenatal supports and programs, many mothers fail to take advantage of what is available to them.  This gap in service is addressed by the Program because we develop a trusting and therapeutic relationship with our mothers, helping them identify the services and supports they require, and preparing them to engage in service by reducing any barriers and fears they may have.  Many times, the Helping Hands Worker holds the hands of the mother as she takes her first steps towards engaging with community supports.  In essence, the Program mothers the mothers to be.  Through this Parallel Process we are teaching our mothers healthy attachment.  The Program supports and assists these mothers with developing personal action plans that bring about meaningful change to address potential child protection risk(s) they may present to their unborn baby.
