On Saturday September 14th family and colleagues gathered at Highland Shores Children’s Aid to remember Ken Sykes and raised $10,000 for The Children’s Foundation Reach for Success Bursary Awards Program.
Ken was an active member of The Children’s Foundation Board of Directors for seven (7) years. Ken was a true champion for children and youth-in-care and was instrumental in establishing our Reach for Success Bursary Program.
The Children’s Foundation Executive Director, Connie Reid remarked, “All funds raised from this event go to our Bursary program.”
Co-Chair & Board Member Sheri Thompson said “I am continuously amazed at the generosity of our community and how something as small as a morning walk can make such a difference for the future of youth in care.”
Co-Chair Andrea Lea commented “We were very pleased with the amount of support that we received for this event. Thank you to all of the community members who supported this great cause. We raised $10,000 that will go directly to supporting children in care who are pursuing post-secondary education. We are looking forward to continuing to grow this event and getting more professionals involved as we would not be where we are today without our education.”
The Children’s Foundation (TCF) has been serving children and youth in Hastings County since 1991, and, in 2015, expanded to include Northumberland & Prince Edward Counties. The Children’s Foundation is an autonomous organization governed by its own Board of Directors and is the charitable arm of Highland Shores Children’s Aid (HSCA). Additionally, TCF offers programs for families who are at risk with no affiliation to HSCA. Programs and services aim to educate and inspire members of the communities they serve and to effect change that bring people and financial resources together to improve the quality of life for at risk children and youth.
