On Saturday September 16th family and colleagues gathered at Highland Shores Children’s Aid to remember Ken Sykes and raised $12,800 for The Children’s Foundation Reach for Success Bursary Awards Program.
Ken was an active member of The Children’s Foundation Board of Directors for seven (7) years. Ken was a true champion for children and youth-in-care and was instrumental in establishing our Reach for Success Bursary Program.
The Children’s Foundation Executive Director, Connie Reid remarked, “All funds raised from this event go to our Bursary program. We hit a milestone this year and to-date over $100,000 has been raised for this program.”
Candice Pilgrim, a former bursary recipient herself, commented, “Post-secondary education is a pivotal opportunity for youth-in-care, most of whom have little to no financial support from their families. Lack of financial support should not be a barrier to the pursuit of higher education. The Children’s Foundation Reach for Success Bursaries are a welcome aid to supplement those youth who otherwise may not have the resources to attend college or university.” Candice is a family lawyer with O’Flynn Weese LLP.
The Children’s Foundation (TCF) has been serving children and youth in Hastings County since 1991, and, in 2015, expanded to include Northumberland & Prince Edward Counties. The Children’s Foundation is an autonomous organization governed by its own Board of Directors and is the charitable arm of Highland Shores Children’s Aid (HSCA). Additionally, TCF offers programs for families who are at risk with no affiliation to HSCA. Programs and services aim to educate and inspire members of the communities they serve and to effect change that bring people and financial resources together to improve the quality of life for at risk children and youth.
