Kanter for Kids

On October 20, 2013, over 50 riders joined us at the Batawa Ski Hill for our Kanter  for Kids ride.

October is Child Abuse Prevention Month and one of the most visible pieces to represent this campaign is the purple ribbon.  Purple is the signature colour of child abuse prevention.  It shouldn’t hurt to be a child! We asked all our riders and horses to wear purple (we had purple ribbon for horses)!

The day was a lot of fun and we couldn’t have asked for better weather for a ride thru the beautiful trails of Batawa.

Quinte Children’s Foundation would like to thank all of our generous sponsors and enthusiastic riders for helping to make the day so great!  We raised over $5000 and all the proceeds will help high-risk children and youth in our communities. This  would not have been possible without you.

To QCF staff and all of our amazing Volunteers, thank you!

We hope you can join us again next year!!

4th Annual Ken Sykes Kommunity Ties Run/Walk

On September 28th, 2013 , friends, family, colleagues and community members gathered at West Zwicks Park to remember a local man for his dedication and commitment to our area’s children at the fourth annual Ken Sykes Memorial 5 km run/walk presented by McDougall Insurance and Financial.

Ken was a true champion for children; he was an active member of Quinte Children’s Foundation Board of Directors for 7 years holding various positions including treasurer and Board Chair. Unfortunately, Ken left us much too early; this is our way of always remembering his contribution to the children in our community.

A true testament to the man Ken was, his friends, his family and his community have rallied behind this event since 2010 generating funds for a program that was important to him, Reach for Success Bursary Program.  This program allows youth that may otherwise not have a chance to continue their education an opportunity to do so.  Bursaries are presented to youth and kids in the care of Highland Shores Children’s Aid at the annual Quinte Children’s Foundation Youth Award night. Over $14,000 was  raised at this year’s event and, to-date, Ken Sykes Run/Walk has raised over $60,000.

We are very pleased to announce that this year we were joined by over 80 enthusiastic supporters. As well, before the 5K, we had a free fun 2k run for kids to participate.  The warm response and generosity from all the community, sponsors, runners, walkers and volunteers helped make the event greatly rewarding for all of us. Andrea DiRocco-Supryka, who was a Board member with Ken and said “this event is what Ken was all about, everyone giving a little to help a lot.”

We are looking forward to our 5th Ken Sykes Run/Walk and we hope you can join us for a beautiful morning 5k run or walk next year!

Quinte Children’s Foundation would like to thank all the runners and walkers who came out to the Ken Sykes Kommunity Ties Run/Walk. Special thanks to McDougall Insurance, McDonald’s, Colin  McLean and Bay Mazda who were our Lead Sponsors and to all our sponsors; this  would not have been possible without you. To QCF staff and all of our fantastic Volunteers, thank you!
